Camp Green Acres

Reviews - Camp Green Acres

Camp Green Acres

For 50 years Green Acres has been providing outdoor country day camp experiences for children ages 2 1/2 to 15 years old.

The goal of our summer programs is to get children outdoors in a fun, safe, and spirited environment. We would like each camper to grow in knowledge, self-respect and self-esteem, skill development, leadership and co-operation.

Our camp community is a place for children to grow as individuals. We provide a setting where our campers can feel safe about accepting challenges and reaching beyond self imposed limits.

Our Programs

Parents love the flexibility of being able to choose or mix-and-match between our amazing camp programs.

TRADITIONAL CAMP

Camp programs are geared to each age group. As our campers grow up with us, they graduate from unit to unit. Graduating to a new unit at camp also means getting to try new activities that were not available at the earlier stages.

Along with their counsellors, campers participate in a variety of age appropriate activities, most of which are taught by specialty instructors. Each day, campers can look forward to five different activities, in addition to an instructional and recreational swim.

  • Bunnies – Pre-Nursery (2 1/2 and 3 1/2)
  • Chipmunks – Nursery
  • Beavers – JK
  • Buffaloes – SK
  • Bears – Grade 1
  • Eagles – Grade 2
  • Seniors – Grades 3 and 4
  • Grads and Alumni – Grades 5, 6, and 7
  • Leadership Training Program – Grades 8 and 9

With over 40 activities at camp your child will have a great mix of art, science, nature, sport, outdoor adventure, and performing arts activities.

CEDAR CREEK RIDING CAMP

Our goal is to teach each camper how to ride and care for their horse in a safe and supportive environment.

Our small camp size, excellent staff, programs, facilities and schooled horses all combine to provide an unparalleled camp and riding experience which is every young rider’s dream.

  • Full-Day Cedar Creek Program

Campers receive two full English Riding lessons daily as well as a recreational swim.  Campers can choose a daily instructional swim option instead of a daily recreational swim (additional fee applies).  Campers will receive swim instruction by our qualified swim staff.

Enrolment is on a two week basis. At the end of the two week program a horse show is organized for the campers to show their parents all of their new riding skills.

  • Half-Day Saddle Champs Program

This program is a half day horseback riding option for children completing grade 1 or higher. In this half day program, campers will be assigned to a cabin group at Green Acres, spend half their day participating in traditional camp activities and the other half of the day with the horses.

In the Saddle Champs program, campers spend approximately one hour in an English riding lesson and approximately one hour learning about stable management (i.e. horse care, feeding, preparing horses for shows).

Enrolment is on a two week basis. At the end of the two week program a horse show is organized for the campers to show their parents all of their new riding skills.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAM

For campers completing Grades 8 and 9, the LTP program prepares teens for leadership roles both at camp and in their communities.

Green Acres LTPs will:

  • Experience a different placement around camp each week. Opportunity to work with different age groups, assisting counselors, instructors, and specialists.
  • Work alongside Directors and Head Staff in the planning, preparation and execution of camp wide programs.
  • Earn up to 18 volunteer hours counting towards high school community service requirements
  • Participate in Emergency First Aid certification course
  • Participate in weekly interactive and fun workshops
  • Have a summer they won’t stop talking about!

PARENT AND TOT

An opportunity for parents or caregivers and tots to play and discover together. The focus will be to develop the child’s social skills through swimming, arts & crafts, snack time, gymnastics, farm, circle games, cooking, beadmaking, ponies, sporting activities, play, music and songs. Swim is also taught daily by a qualified swim instructor. Every day is different so come as often as you like!

HALF DAY BUNNY PROGRAM (Ages 2 1/2 to 3 1/2)

This program is designed for our youngest campers who are not yet ready for a full day program.

For parents and campers, the first camp experience is going to be both exhilarating and a little apprehensive. Bunny counsellors are carefully chosen for their experience and nurturing and caring personality. In addition to a variety of age appropriate activities, Bunny campers also receive a daily instructional swim lesson. Bunny campers do not need to be toilet trained.

Campers depart camp after lunch at 1:15 p.m.  Busing is available for most of Thornhill, Richmond Hill (South of Gamble Rd) and Markham. If you live outside these areas, please contact the camp office for further information.

Are you having trouble deciding between MyCAMP and Sports Camp?  Why not try our new MyCAMP & All-Star combination program.  This program is being offered in Weeks 7, 8 or 9 for campers completing Grades 3 thru 7 this year.

Campers will spend their morning at MyCAMP participating in 3 activities of their choice from a list of over 20 different activities being offered each week.  In the afternoon campers will move to All-Star and will get to choose 2 sports from a list of 11 sports available.
