Toronto Waterfront Montessori Children's Centres

Waterfront Montessori Children’s Centre is a 32-space childcare centre for 2½ to 5 year olds nestled in nature on Toronto Island. The school uniquely combines the Montessori method and Early Childhood Education, which gives our children the best of both approaches. Children are dropped off at the city ferry dock and escorted by their teachers on the 10 minute ferry ride to Ward’s Island. The Island setting is ideal for discovery in the natural sciences and our nature-based curriculum gives them an opportunity to fall in love with the natural world.

About Summer Camp

WMCC campers must be 4 to 6 years (SK) of age (if the child turned 6 in 2014 and is entering Grade 1 in September.)  Children under the age of 4 years can attend only if they are already registered in the WMCC program. **Camp 2015 is now FULL. If you wish to be on a Wait List please contact us

Earth awareness through Play.  Toronto Island offers children a special place to call their own.  Water, Earth, fresh Air and Sunshine are in abundance and we take advantage of the natural setting and wide-open spaces to help children fall in love with Nature.  Children are natural naturalists.  All activities explore the worlds of the earth: mineral, plant, animals and humans.  The travel time, art activities, songs, stories, and creative play round out their day.  Vegetarian lunch is provided, staff escort on the ferry and we all walk or ride to the Centre. Many of the children bring their bicycles to camp. The children visit the beaches and splash pads on the Island but we do not go swimming. We have a small wading pool at the Centre and we often have the sprinkler going.  The schedule allows for both individual child focused activities as well as group circles and teacher lead stories and songs.
