Choosing the right child care centre can be one of the hardest decisions parents and guardians have to make. You want a child care provider with the experience to keep your child safe and happy. You want your child to learn and grow in a stimulating and fun environment. Most of all, you want your child to get the attention and love he or she needs to develop self-esteem and self-confidence. 

History

For over 40 years,  the YMCA of Greater Toronto has provided quality licensed child care programs with exceptionally high standards of care and education meeting or exceeding Provincial and Municipal licensing requirements. . Today we are the largest not for profit provider of Licensed Child Care in Canada with programs for children from infancy to 12 years throughout the GTA. All of our centres open early and close late to fit the schedule of parents and families.  

We currently operate:

  • More than 250 licensed child care programs
  • Programming for infants to 12 years of age
  • Programs for children in half day and alternating day kindergarten (full day care is available space permitting during school breaks and P.A. Days)
  • Part-time program options in select locations
  • Standard hours of operation are Monday to Friday,  7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The licensee shall ensure that the Licensing Inspection Summary is posted in a conspicuous place in the child care centre at or near an entrance commonly used by parents. The licensee shall ensure that the completed Licensing Checklist and the Summary of Licensing Requirements and Recommendations sheets are readily available for parents. The licensee shall ensure that the total licensed capacity is not exceeded at any time.
Room 1A is licensed for use by a preschool group of 24 children. Room 12 is licensed for use by a Kindergarten group of 26 children. The Auditorium is licensed for use by a Primary/Junior School Age group of 30 children.
The licensee shall submit written confirmation to the Ministry by May 27, 2016 that full compliance has been achieved for all items identified as “in progress” on the Summary of Child Care Centre Licensing Requirements and Recommendations report The licensee shall submit written confirmation to the Ministry by September 1, 2016 that the written plan for completion of valid certification in standard first aid including infant and child CPR has been completed.
The licensee shall develop and implement policies and procedures for bagged lunches that include: • guidelines and sample menus for preparing bagged lunches which meet the recommendations of Canada’s Food Guide; • allergy awareness procedures, including prohibited foods (e.g., peanuts); • proper food storage procedures; and • back-up procedures if a bagged lunch is forgotten or does not meet nutritional requirements. The licensee shall review the bagged lunch policies and procedures with parents at the time of enrolment and the information shall be included in the centre’s parent handbook.
The operator shall ensure that children are not permitted to play in the space on the side of the outdoor storage bunker or behind it.
The kindergarten and school age program are licensed to operate before and after school and full-day on PA days and school holidays.
All rooms as set out in the shared space confirmation are approved for use by the child care program, based on licensed capacity, provided that the room or area is used by the school for children who are the same age as the age category of the licensed age group. The operator is required to keep on file at the premises an up-to-date shared space confirmation. This confirmation must include the primary use of the room during the school day and must be made available to Ministry of Education staff upon request.
Before changes are made to shared space and/or the total capacity for kindergarten and/or school-age children, the operator shall ensure that an up to date shared space confirmation document that is signed by the operator and a school board representative is available on site for Ministry review.

Director's Approval

Director approval has been granted for JK/SK and School-age children to bring bagged lunches and or snacks.
Director’s Approval is granted for mixed age grouping pursuant to ss. 8(2) and (3) of Ontario Regulation 137/15.
Director approval is granted for the use of specified rooms/areas that may have less than 2.58 square metres of unobstructed floor space for each child in a licensed kindergarten, primary/junior school age and/or junior school age group, based on the licensed capacity, provided that the same room or area is used by the school for children who are the same age as the age category of the licensed age group.
