204-PDFP - Preportfolio Drawing Fundamentals: PORTRAITURE

The Portraiture course is one of four Drawing Fundamentals courses designed to provide students with the essential skills and techniques needed to build a strong foundation in observational drawing. Portraiture drawing is essential for mastering the fundamentals of anatomy, proportions, and the placement of facial features, which are crucial in creating realistic and expressive portraits. Over the course of 8 classes, students will learn the Loomis Method of drawing the head from various angles, focusing on the placement and structure of facial features. They will use these skills to create realistic portraits and expressive cartoon characters.

Please note: New students at the intermediate level may need an assessment or be recommended to take other courses as a prerequisite (such as Sketching Basics (Still Life), Perspective Drawing or Art & Achievement). Please contact service@lolart.ca if you are a new and interested in this course.

This course is designed to provide a solid base for aspiring illustrators, animators, and designers.

The Intermediate Illustration course has 10 classes that will cover: raster-style art, character collage, digital painting from reference and imagination.

An Android tablet with a stylus pen and keyboard will be provided.

We will be using Krita , a free open-source digital drawing app that is similar to Adobe Photoshop. It is available on Windows, MacOS, Linux and Android tablets (not available on iOS/Apple iPads). If you’d like to use it at home, you can download Krita here .

Important Note: This course is a prerequisite for Digital Art Advanced - Illustration 2 .
