Choosing the right child care centre can be one of the hardest decisions parents and guardians have to make. You want a child care provider with the experience to keep your child safe and happy. You want your child to learn and grow in a stimulating and fun environment. Most of all, you want your child to get the attention and love he or she needs to develop self-esteem and self-confidence. 

History

For over 40 years,  the YMCA of Greater Toronto has provided quality licensed child care programs with exceptionally high standards of care and education meeting or exceeding Provincial and Municipal licensing requirements. . Today we are the largest not for profit provider of Licensed Child Care in Canada with programs for children from infancy to 12 years throughout the GTA. All of our centres open early and close late to fit the schedule of parents and families.  

We currently operate:

  • More than 250 licensed child care programs
  • Programming for infants to 12 years of age
  • Programs for children in half day and alternating day kindergarten (full day care is available space permitting during school breaks and P.A. Days)
  • Part-time program options in select locations
  • Standard hours of operation are Monday to Friday,  7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

The licensee shall ensure that the Licensing Inspection Summary is posted in a conspicuous place in the child care centre at or near an entrance commonly used by parents. The licensee shall ensure that the completed Licensing Checklist and the Summary of Licensing Requirements and Recommendations sheets are readily available for parents.
Guidelines and sample menus for preparing bag lunches which meet Canada's Food Guide, as well as procedures for refrigeration or the use of ice packs with bag lunches, shall be provided to each parent and posted at the centre. The operator shall review this information with parents at the time of enrolment and the information shall be included in the centre's parent handbook. The centre shall ensure back-up procedures are in place if a bag lunch is forgotten.
The school age capacity is based on the use of the school gymnasium.
The operator shall ensure that rooms 103 and 105 are not used until the Ministry has received all required municipal approvals. In the interim the operator shall continue to use one of the approved alternate spaces.
No child shall use the playground structure until a third party certified playground inspector's written confirmation all immediate health and safety issues have been addressed has been submitted to the ministry.

Director's Approval

Once the Child Care and Early Years Act and regulations come into effect, director approval is granted for the use of a room or area with less than 2.58 square metres of unobstructed floor space for each child in a licensed kindergarten, primary/junior school age and/or junior school age group, based on the licensed capacity, provided that the same room or area is used by the school for children who are the same age as the age category of the licensed age group as set out in the shared space confirmation.
Director's approval has been granted for mixed age grouping under s. 55(2) of O. Reg. 262. Mixed age grouping can be implemented in only one group in each age category. 20% of the licensed capacity per age group is as follows: School-Age (30): 6 children.
Director approval has been granted for kindergarten and school-age children to bring bag lunches and snacks on P.A. days and school holidays.
